Redundancy prompts husband and wife to open estate and lettings agency
When Matt Markham was made redundant in 2016 from his position as operations manager for a sportswear company, he knew he did not want to return to life as an employee. He wanted to get straight back into work, but this time as his own boss.
Matt knew that taking on a franchise would accelerate his route to owning a business. He’d identified it as an affordable way to set up a venture and recognised the benefits and support an established brand could offer him.
Matt and his wife Andrea researched potential franchises on the British Franchise Association (bfa) website and chose some accredited brands that appealed.
Keen to run a franchise in the property sector, Matt and Andrea had detailed discussions with multi-award-winning estate and letting agents EweMove at the event. The couple were impressed with the EweMove team and felt they’d had all their questions answered. They were also able to source vital advice on their business plan and funding options from specialist advisers at the exhibition.
By November 2016, Matt and Andrea had signed up with the brand and, after completing the company’s training course, the couple opened the Cheadle Hulme branch of EweMove in January 2017.
