Mother and Daughter Celebrate First Year in Business

Jennie and Fay Mills, owners of Rainbow International Derby West, have just celebrated their first successful year in business. They have successfully built their business with Jennie taking care of the day to day admin and technical operations while her mother, Fay, looks after the business accounts and wages behind the scenes. The pair make a great team and have worked hard to build solid foundations for their business and they’re not looking back!

Jennie has even been able to put her skills as a commercial diver to good use…

“A local business centre asked us to go in and remove algae from a lake to make it more presentable for a Royal visit. Not only were we able to remove the visible algae from the edges of the lake, I was also able to dive down and pull it out at the roots to stop it from appearing again. We are now the only franchisees in the network to offer underwater restoration but we’re hoping that it will be something the whole network can offer in the future” explains Jennie.

The business has given both Jennie and Fay a better lifestyle. Jennie in particular had been commuting and spending little time at home. Now she lives almost on-site and enjoys the freedom and flexibility of being a business owner.

“Not only has our first year been a total success, we’ve managed to move premises twice and we can now happily say we are settled! We have built our team of both claim handlers and restoration technicians and our vehicle fleet is growing too. We have also recently invested in state of the art drying equipment and we’re already seeing a dramatic reduction in our drying days, explains Fay.

Rainbow International is the UK’s leading supplier of disaster recovery and specialist cleaning services and part of global franchising giant, The Dwyer Group. They provide fire, flood, escape of water and accidental damage restoration services to many of the UK’s leading insurance companies on behalf of their many policyholders. In addition, they provide a comprehensive range of specialist cleaning services to commercial, industrial and domestic premises, promoted by the franchisees in their designated territories.

“Opening a franchise or any business is a big step for many people but Jennie and Fay have really taken it in their stride. Their business is thriving and it’s great to have franchisees in the network who think of innovative ways to use their existing skills.

…The way Jennie has introduced her diving skills to the business is something that we would never have thought of! We look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future and any new services they develop,” explains Simon Ford, Operations Director at Rainbow International.
