Franchisee Case Study: Suhail and Tasnim Rehman, Home Instead Senior Care

Scotland is proving hugely successful for business and franchising is no exception, as entrepreneurial couple Tasnim and Suhail are demonstrating having recently launched Home Instead Senior Care Stirling & Falkirk, taking their total number of franchised offices in Scotland to three.

The expansion to three territories is quite the milestone, particularly for a couple also raising young children. It was made possible thanks to the couple’s extensive commercial experience, a great team, tremendous support from national office and the franchise network and some clever business decisions.

The husband-and-wife duo were not only business partners, but also business neighbours, with Suhail heading up Home Instead Glasgow North and Tasnim the Glasgow South territory.

As a couple and successful franchisees in their own right, they have centralised a number of their business activities, such as finance, recruitment and training. This has meant that they are now in a strong position to open their third franchise with the hugely successful Home Instead Senior Care brand.

Home Instead Senior Care delivers tailored support to help seniors maintain their personal independence. Similarly, the ability to maintain independence as a business owner while being supported by the network is a large part of what attracts many franchisees to Home Instead. Tasnim and Suhail have been extremely successful in creating a smaller network within the larger Home Instead family and it is working well for them and their team, as well as for the communities they serve.

A former director of a global software company, born-and-bred Glaswegian Suhail became a Home Instead franchisee in 2014. Having personal experience of caring for his ageing parents, he felt passionate about the need for quality care in his community. By applying his transferable business skills to build a highly capable team, Suhail was well on his way to turning over £1 million per year by the time his wife decided to take on her own territory in 2016.

Tasnim transitioned from a successful career in retail to open her Home Instead franchise. Having worked in the fast-paced retail industry for brands including Vivienne Westwood, Calvin Klein and Chanel, it was quite a quite a departure from her former role. But she is a people person and this is a people business. Tasnim and Suhail wanted to really make a difference and caring is something which is natural to them, so it was an opportunity they welcomed with open arms.

Both driven by their desire to enrich their local communities, Suhail and Tasnim have built a strong and successful business that is well and truly furthering the Home Instead mission ‘to become the UK’s most admired care company through changing the face of ageing’.

Suhail explained,

“Here in Scotland there is an ageing population and we knew there was huge demand for quality home-based care. The Home Instead franchise business model has allowed us to expand our business at a much faster pace. I would recommend franchising to anyone. Franchising offers a great, less-risky way of becoming your own boss, if you choose the right franchise for you of course. Thankfully we did!
