Family Inspires Launch of Walfinch Sutton Coldfield

Gurprit Gill is launching the Walfinch home care service in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, inspired by her commitment to family care.

Gurprit started as a carer in 2010 and worked her way up to being a Care Manager, and her care philosophy has always been based on what she would want for her own family.

“I see my parents getting older and I want to ensure that they, and everyone who needs help, receive it in a dignified and heartfelt manner – and I want to offer far more than basic care services. My grandma can no longer travel, but I want to ensure that she and people like her, can go to family occasions, even if it means taking a carer, a hoist and a profiling bed.”

After 16 years in the care sector, and achieving the level 5 qualification in care management, Gurprit is taking the next step, by launching her own care business as a Walfinch franchisee.

“I aim to bring our care clients a healthy life, fresh food, and the ability to attend social occasions, and I have the commitment and the experience to do it,” she says.

She wants to work with her care team to deliver holistic fitness coaching to help clients increase physical skills, such as getting up from chairs more easily and has plans for arts and crafts activities, pamper sessions and social occasions.

“My care philosophy chimes with that of Walfinch, and the support and business experience of their franchise team will help me succeed,” she says.

Gurprit is now recruiting her care team, which may be aided by her existing profile in the care sector.  In the past, her reputation as a caring leader has meant that carers and clients have followed her when she has changed jobs. She is also introducing her new service to clients and families by organising leaflet distribution and has taken on a content creator to make the service known on social media.

Having transitioned from carer to businesswoman, Gurprit hopes to see her focus on family-style care passed down to the next generation.

“My two daughters, Avneet, 11, and Ambar, 8, will see their mum build a business in the care sector – proof that women can succeed in business and still maintain their caring side. Later I hope to be able to provide them with work experience, and perhaps see them take over the business.”
